Strategy

This strategy, developed in consultation with older people and key stakeholders, reflects the importance of improving mainstream and preventative services for older people, rather than simply focusing on the traditional health and social care issues.

It recognises that older people are a diverse group whose needs and aspirations are as diverse as the rest of the population and that services must change and policies be adapted in the future to cater for this diversity and to meet the needs of an ageing population. It takes as a starting point the seven themes and the key issues that were identified by older people themselves during the original consultation in 2004, adapted to take account of more recent findings.

  • Safer and stronger neighbourhoods: Older people feeling safe in, and part of, their neighbourhoods.
  • Information: Older people getting the information they need in timely and accessible ways.
  • Participation and engagement: Older people being supported to achieve their personal aspirations for participation and engagement.
  • Economic aspirations and income: Older people achieving maximum possible financial security and opportunities.
  • Getting out and about: Older people getting out and about on safe, accessible transport that is flexible enough to meet their needs.
  • Housing and the home: Older people feeling safe and secure in housing that is of good quality and range that is suitable, accessible
    and well maintained.
  • Health and healthy living: Older people feeling healthier and well supported.

Equalities Impact Assessment (EIA)

The All Our Tomorrows strategy has been assessed for its likely impact on the promotion of disability and race equality, gender, disability, sexuality, religion or belief and age. This reflects an ongoing commitment to equalities and emerging legislation.

Quarterly Highlight/Exception Monitoring Reports 2007/08

AOT has been clear from the start that ongoing clear evaluation methodology is needed. A real strength to our work has been the commitment to ensure that older people in particular have a voice in the implementation of the strategy and associated actions. In the last year AOT has developed a coherent quarterly performance management framework, which ensures both the Shadow and AOT Board has the ability to challenge and understand progress with respect to the delivery of specific actions identified. The links below will provide you with full copies of our quarterly highlight/exception reports showing you where either progress has been made or where further actions are needed.
